just hold out for the next gen 9800's

according to nVidia, one 9800 will beat to 8800GTXs by a decent margin.

Just don't want to be cutting edge, just costs too darn much $$$. Think that card will run a premium?

Thoughts?

Thats why I went with the cheaper card for now because I know something better is around the corner. Once the 9000 series is released, I will still then wait a good half a year or more to purchase one.

Like Ren said.. some games will always have places and points in them where the framerate will plunge. Remeber the game F.E.A.R. ? You could have had the best of the best and the game was still going to lag bad in places.

I think brand is important with a card as well. I have had bad luck with a few brands. So don't just buy the cheapest 8800GT. Spend the extra few bucks on a good brand. EVGA, XFX, and ASUS are all good videocard brands. Avoid the MSI cards. BFG's are too expensive when you can get the same in an EVGA.

I recently picked up a "non" superclocked EVGA 8600GTS. I am very impressed with the card.

I vow to never run two cards. I am just fully against SLI. Why not pack the technology of two cards in one? To me its just a money making marketing plot. While I was spending $400 a while back on a brand new 6800GT the 8800GT was already being tested.

I run UT3 and COD4 at pretty high settings without a single glitch with the card. Just started playing Crysis at it's recommended settings. Keep in mind that Crysis is designed for a multi-core cpu, and dual video cards. I run the game just fine and am blown away by my video cards performance. I have a rather old machine too. I think you may find that many games and applications will still perform better on XP as well.
