current physical connection goes: PC (via ethernet cable)-->Modem(via coax cable)-->Wall jack
system drivers are all current, modem firmware is auto-updated nightly as needed and is current per the ISP.
a hole is starting to develop in my desk where I've been pounding my forehead into it. |
I hate to say it, but the only sure way to isolate the problem down to ISP / house wiring vs. computer is to pick the whole mess up and take it over to a friends house and see if the problem exists there. If so, it's the PC. If not, it's either a problem with the ISP at the street backwards or with your house wiring from the street forwards.

When you uninstalled CoD4, did you also remove all registry entries and such from the previous install?
Just wandering if something is corrupt and still there.
Make sure all in house connections are clean and solid.
Is there any new wires or electronics in your house that are near internet wires that may be causing interuptions?
Have you tried playing with the firewall shut-off completely?
If you have X-fire, try turning it off.
It really sounds like a firewall issue, corrupt game setting, or something running in background.
If none of the above helps, then try this:
Create a new game profile and use lower settings on graphics with resolution somewhere around 1024 or 1280 x ??? Then try playing and let us know if that makes a difference.

I forgot to mention; You might try playing another game like CoD2 on server 3 and see if you get the same results.

everything sucks at that detail level. and no, no difference. no packet loss. no server lag (per the lagometer). everything runs fine until it stops dead.
when the connection is lost, I can't get back into the game for several minutes, but I can pull up youtube and open a video right away.
the problem comes from either a software issue (of which all available fixes have been tried), or someone at activision likes shutting me down when I start brutalizing people.
that's the funniest part... it's whenever my ratio creeps above 5/1 that I get the connection boot.

Ratio getting above 5/1??? I know why you keep getting booted... Punkbuster is seeing your hacks... Try turning those off...

Well that narrows it down a lot.
I'm going to guess it is windows software related.
Have you tried to roll back windows using sytem restore?
Have you tried the CoD2 yet?
Curious if you get the same result.
I doubt it is your score, sounds like you are just good and probably get good ratios on regular basis. You stated early you were on a server by yourself and as soon as someone else connected you immediately got the boot.
Worst case scenerio, I bet you will have to wipe out your drive and reinstall everything.
You could also try a voodoo doctor to cast out the evil spirits!
Just kidding, I know it's frustrating but don't give up.

Maybe it's giving you problems because your Packard Bell 386 needs an upgrade.

well, 2 days of tech-support ping-pong with InActivision, and no resolution yet.
props to my ISP, "RCN", for actually getting an advance level tech to monitor my side of the connection (for an hour... with 3 game disconnects) for packet loss and ping spikes... of which there were NONE.

So has service pack 1 sneaked onto your pc. Your problems seemed to start around the time it was released ? Do you have your old pc to try ? Why not put xp on as dual boot if you have a copy ?
