Am I done with 2142, et. all? |
|
|
the short answer? yes.
I took about a month off from 2142, only playing about 1 hour a week. I don't find any challenge anymore. I just played a round and in 15 minutes put up more points than the entire rest of my team combined... and the round had been going on for at least 15 minutes before I joined. There is just NO competition anymore.
Nobody else in uZa plays it, except for Snafu on a rare occasion.
the problem is, no one is playing anything else, either. I go on CoD:2 ... never anyone on. I don't like GW (nothing personal, tight wearers) or WoW. Quake and Unreal are long running jokes. I'm sorry, but those games just look retarded.
So, what is going to be THE GAME that is going to bring the Clan back together as a cohesive dominating force in the online gaming realm? Is there a game that will bring us back together with everyone on Vent laughing and playing at the highest levels of gaming?
Older members, remember going on UO and just... dominating EVERYONE all the time? I miss that... the camaraderie... the razor sharp skill... the comfort of a bunch of good friends having a blast.
Am i right? Do we need to find a "core" game that brings us all back into the fold as that legendary clan of old? A game that appeals to the run-and-gunners, the tight-wearing questers, and the objective-based realistic FPSers...
What is this game, and when does it come out? Or am I just a morose m/f'er in my old gamer age? United we must stand, or divided we shall fall.

i hear ya 10k
the UO days were great , we're still having a good laugh @ cod2 ,
and i think we give a good challenge to others .
to bad we're not in the same time zone !
maybe you should give it a try in the weekends , the euro git squad will be there !
not sure which game will be worth the try .... was thinking about quake wars (the long running joke ?)

I hear ya bro. I don't believe that PC gaming is dead. I do believe that the later part of 2007 will bring us some decent stuff. I am always open to suggestions on making things better. I will be the first one to say that I have let this clan slip. We are a long way from where we were and I too miss those yesterdays. This clan made those games like UT, UO and CoD special to me and I will never forget them or the fun I had with the fellow players. I will do whatever I can to help bring this clan back.

I miss the old UO days too. A lot of great memories. I remember I could join vent at any moment of the day, and their would still be at least seven to twelve, and even fifteen people in the UO channel.
You could play server 3 in the evenings. A lot of guys are on, and we normally have some good laughs.

Yeah I put down 2142 a while ago too. It was very time consuming, although I loved the game play. I honestly have been playing alot of Guitar Hero 2 lately, but it too is starting to fade (until the 80's edition comes out ). I, just last night, got on vent and played on server 3. There was a lot of uZa on there and I was laughin' my arse off. Yes I miss the UO days as well. I came in the clan when UO was at a peak, and that was awesome! We need a new game.

One important factor needs to be remembered in all of this.
Our servers would be nothing without the popularity of the game in general that brings all the users to us to begin with.
AFTER that fact, we gained our popularity because of 2 things. 1. We kept things fresh thanks to a few dedicated folks who kept new maps in rotation and constantly made changes to the game to keep things fresh. 2. And sometimes most importantly, we had a very high level of competition WHILE HAVING GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP. There's no need tooting your own horn by making comments like "We Dominated everyone!". That's not what we used to be about and I would hope that's not what we've become because if so, you can factor that in as to why we're on the decline.
With all that being said, it's more than just being about what WE as a group decide to play. It's about a combination of that AND how popular the game gets so that we can attract the users by doing the same things we've done in the past.
I can only HOPE that ET:QW is that game because quite honestly, I see nothing else on the imediate horizon that stands a chance. As much as I would LOVE to say Unreal 3, I just don't see the majority being able to handle the incredible fast pasce of that game (Although you know I'll be on board!). If not ET:QW, I think we can count on CoD 4 just because of the franchise and what it brings to the table every time. Those folks have always managed to balance JUST enough ease of gameplay with a certain amount of strategy to hold the attention of both side of the FPS genre (Run and Gun like myself and those who prefer slow paced strategy). But as we all know, that's a ways off.
As for me? I'll be first in line for ET:QW and will also make sure to work closely with CMOS and Lonesome Eagle to get a server up FAST (As I think that also helps to attract new regulars to the server if we're one of the first). We shall see how it all unfolds.
As it is though, I will be COMPLETELY relearning how to play FPS games because WoW has made me completely reconfigure the controls I'm used to using. Last time I played CoD 2 I was COMPLETELY worthless.

For those that dont know me I play COD2 on Server 3 nearly every night.
If you like military sims and want something different then take a look at Armed Assult. It is a brand new game but has a long history. It originally came out in 2001 as Operation Flashpoint and has a cult following in the US and Europe. OFP had 2 official addons called red hammer and Resistance. They just added patches to the base game along with new story lines to the single player campaign. OFP was played competitively world wide for 5 years solid and kept alive long after it should have by a vast modding community. This game allows for a full range of players. It has flyable aircraft such as A-10's and SU-25's for close air support. It has helocoptors such as hinds and apaches for close in support or Blackhawks and Hips for farrying troops in and out of battle. It has Tanks like M1's and T-72's with various positions not just gunners but tank commanders and drivers. It has APC's such as bradleys and BMP's with various player positions like the tanks. It has Hummers and motorcycles and just about anything you can think of. Like I said OFP had a huge modding community and that community is moving over to Armed Assult. The game at its core is an infantry sim. All the weapons and vehicles are there to support the troop. So how is this different from every other game? Its played on and Island. These Islands are huge. If you are on foot it will take you several hours to walk from one end of the island to the other. I dont mean game time I mean real time. If you are in a vehicle like a hummer it will take you 30-45 real time minutes to drive the length of the island. Anyone can be a mission maker. There is a mission make as a part of the game that allows you to create what ever experience you want. You want a tank battle you make it. You want a dog fight for air supremecy you make it. You want hundreds of people pooning one another you make it. There is also other software out there that will let you create new islands. This is for the more advanced people or you can download things like new tanks addons or islands from other websites.
Now there are a couple of downsides to Armed Assult. One is you need a fairly good computer to play this game. I believe you need a 2.5 Ghz processor or better. A minimum of a gig of ram. It says a 256 or better graphics card but you really need a 512 AGP or a 384 PCI or better. I run a Pent D 3.0 Ghz with 2 gigs of ram and a 256 Nvidia 6800 PCI-E and I need to run they game on average settings.
A downside for some but not others is this is not run and gun and bunny hope in an arena type game. This is a close to a real world infantry sim as you will find. Depending on the mission maker it can be all action all the time or action at the objective and then boredom as you trave to the next objective. Its all about how good the mission designer is.
When I say this is as close of a real world infantry sim I am not kidding. The United States Marine Corps uses a version of this game called VBS1 and VBS2. Virtual Battle Systems. It is the same engine and basically the same game except for a few added bells and whistles.
Give it a look and see if you like what you see. If you have any questions either drop me a PM or catch me on comms on COD2 Server 3. I am on almost every night.

This is our ventrilo population at the moment. We can still get a crowd on some nights, and hopefully the new games can pull some jaded people back in.
