1. post your system specifications. If you have a name brand PC, provide the model number and if possible a link to the manufacturer's site. If you have a custom PC, and don't know your specs, click:START-->Run--> type in "DXDIAG" minus quotes, and click "Yes" if it asks you if you want to check for new certificates.
2. BEFORE POSTING: Make sure all your drivers are the latest (Motherboard, Graphics, Hard Drives, Optical Drive, i.e., CD/DVD)
3. If your PC is running slow, restart Windows 2000 / XP Safe in mode. As the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
Disconnect your internet physically, then run your anti-virus and spyware removal programs. I recommend SPYBOT SEARCH&DESTROY
and AVG BASIC EDITION, as both these programs really clean house, are FREE, and are constantly updated.
*note.. if you are using the spyware program that came with your name-brand PC, or are using one provided by your ISP, RUN THESE ANYWAY. If you are using AOL, just kill yourself now.
4. Post your SPECIFIC problem(s).

how often does it occur?
what are you doing when the problem starts/gets worse?
what else have you tried NOT listed above?
