Probably just the vid cards. You might have to bump them up to the 8 series cards or intel version of them and if you do bump them up then you might have to upgrade your power supply.

Call of duty 4 is being designed so if you can play cod 2 then you will be able to play cod 4 thats what i read in an interview with the developers,I reckon it will come as a choice of dx 7 9 and 10.But i would imagine we shall just have to wait and see,as I for one will not pre upgrade my pc at a cost just to play 1 game.

Actually as an after thought.Someone correct me if I am wrong,if an online game comes out that is designed for dx10 and vista.Would I be right in assuming it will not be going on our server as we run xp ?

Actually, the server runs Windows Server 2003, not XP and what O.S. the server runs on is of no importance to the game.
Considering there is no SERVER class OS that runs DirectX 10 to begin with, this isn't going to be a concern.
It's the client side that deciphers the code, not the server side. The server side just delivers.

It isn't the "Server Side" that delivers... It is the ethergnomes. They work furiously running back and forth over copper and fiber to bring us the glorious packets that we need.

DOA the weakest link in your hardware is your vid card. Having just purchased a new vid card myself might I recommend getting the cheapest DX10 compatible card you can find. With technology on this front moving so fast and the games lagging behind its just not smart right now to drop huge $$$ on a vid card. I got the 8800 GTS and it will get me through another year but not far beyond that. I expect to need a new gaming machine in the next couple of years though.

while a cheap dx-10 card would be ok, at this point i would say wait till the fall. new nvidia cards will be out, so hopefully there will be a bit of a price drop... so you might be able to get a better card for a little more than the cheap cards now. again, you dont need it right this minute, so whatever... choice is yours.
