I would first off check the fan on the heatsink, if you have one. Check the capictors and make sure they are not bulging as well. Blow out any dust. Remove the card and reseat. Try these things first, but sounds like a video card going bad.

It's a good card but personally I wouldn't buy another AGP card. See if you can just get a new computer or upgrade mobo/cpu/memory all to a more modern chip type, allowing you to go PCIE

With that in mind in my opinion it would be pointless forking out money on a card that will only delay the inevitable for about another few months. Eventually you will HAVE to go PCI-E. Fact. And 7800GS is a lot more expensive on AGP than on PCIE because they are trying to encourage people to go the PCIE route. I know it costs money (a lot more money) to upgrade the whole lot. But really, spending money on an AGP card is money down the drain that could be put aside to purchase upgrades.

If it is a matter of emergency (current card is about to literally die out) then just get the same card you have now or something and just put all other funds aside.

Seriously, I cannot recommend buying another AGP card purely for the fact that the lifespan (gaming and technology wise) will be very short.

It's one of those things you are going to have to bite the bullet and just face it I'm afraid. Both my father and I recently purchased new systems as we have put off buying anything for the last 2 years or so, in anticpation of moving to America but as it has been delayed somewhat, and our computers were slowly dieing out, we thought we deserved a treat. So we hopped on eBay and bought 2 very nice gaming PCs from a reputable dealer and now we are all modernised with DirectX10 and tomorrows games. I know I've said it before but I know it's more expensive but it really is money down the drain in my opinion. But whatever you decide is your choice I guess. But if you really must upgrade for emergency reasons, just get the same card as you have now.

I am fully aware of going with PCIE, i was planning on making a new comp for this winter, but recent family emergencies and so on have taken that absolutely out of the question.

And i know getting a new AGP card is probally a waste down the line, but this comp isnt going to be for hard gaming, just school work and maybe WoW, and which school starts soon and i am gonna need a computer to do my stuff on.

And a little boost would just be a bonus for maybe 40$ more then the card i have, that i can do. Im not trying to make a great comp, it is kinda old, but it is all i got at the moment and cant do any better.

I might make a new comp for maybe the spring but i am not even sure about that, money has been pretty tight so, that is why i cant even think about getting a new comp at the moment.

Doesn't seem like you have much choice. But a 7800GS would struggle running some of todays games, let alone tomorrows and unfrotunatly 7800GS is pretty much where the line ends on AGP. But as it's not for hardcore gaming, go for it Smile

If it's only to tide you over for few months then just get whatever card you have now. No point purchasing a high end AGP card if it still isn't good enough to run new games.

then just get the dirt cheapest card you can get your hands on. it doesn't take a lot of gpu horsepower to navigate windows
