Getting a Xbox 360 for Christmas |

We r getting an XBOX 360 for the family this Christmas  , anything I should know about?

If you're wanting a really good group game for everyone to get involved in, get Rock Band. It's a blast.

Rock Band, Guitar Hero 3, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Madden 08, NCAA 08, Gears of War.
Those games will last you a while. Well, they have for me. (except I don't have Rock Band, but I've played it and it's a blast)
There are other great games out there but those are the ones that popped into my mind immediately.
Oh, and if you're into racing games, DEFINITELY pick up Test Drive Unlimited, and if you like off-road racing, pick up Dirt. Both games are really fun. Test Drive has way over 50 cars, plus some motorcycles, and Dirt has rally car and dune buggies and has received excellent reviews from most if not all major game magazines and sites.
EDIT: HOW COULD I FORGET ASSASSIN'S CREED??? This is a fun game too, though it COULD get kind of repetitive. If you're interested, rent it, beat it, return it, as the game can be beaten in about a week.

Guitar is just as fun as Guitar Hero (note charts are better IMO). Singing is fun (when you take turns). Bass is still fun if you're not as advanced, but still provides a challenge on expert. Drums are extremely fun and a lot more difficult than it seems. If you have an entire group together, it's an absolute blast.

Ahh, man spam you had to say Halo, geez, that game is terrible. Got it, started to play got bored on the first level. Much better FPS games.
and i will try out Rockband with a group.

I say CoD4 is better than Halo. But it is still quite fun. I beat it on Legendary. Huzzah!

You should by a cooling solution for it. If it heats up, the rings of death will appear. If that happens and new machine is in order, unless your good with the old soldering iron.

I'd just like to fix what Harryball said...The Red Rings of Death are caused by a virus (well, bug) that some systems have, which causes the system to heat up A LOT, and in the process of heating up, it pretty much melts the insides of your 360. Luckily, Microsoft is giving new 360's to anyone who gets the Rings.

I wonder why I'm on my fourth 360 then...
I have another one that's supposed to be coming back after repair pretty soon and they said they are going to reimburse me somehow for all my broken 360's. I just hope it's something good and not another garbage one month subscription to Xbox Live.

You're probably getting the post-update 360's. All of them have a risk of getting the Red Rings, some higher than others. I do not have a post-update 360 (I got mine around launch) and haven't gotten the Red Rings, though there is a possibility that I'll get it.

We got told at GAME that September 07 was the rerelease date. And by checking the information on the side of the box itself the Halo edition isn't equiped with the new motherboard.
All NEW Elites, Premiums and Arcades have the new motherboard. You can check by looking where the barcodes etc are on the side of the Xbox, box. You are looking for 175W written underneath the barcodes.
Since the new rerelease I haven't refunded any NEW machines come back. Only pre Sep 07 ones so I wish people would just give that whole 'lol RROD in 2 weeks' mock a rest.
