Yes, they may have safety in mind but don't you think this is just eliminating another little "freedom" that exists.
These guys would be able to stop you for no reason at all. Nice way for a car jacker to get you to stop on a quiet road too.
What do I know.

Oh, don't worry DB7, no one on the police force or with the government would abuse such power. Would they? Besides, they'll have everyone convinced that it must be done because it is for the safety of "the community." Just like the tracking chips that some people want to see placed under our skin.

Provided that the owner of the vehicle HAS to notify On-Star that said vehicle is stolen before they will even consider disabling the engine, I don't see too much of an issue with that part of it...
However, considering our government, I can see that part of the deal only lasting a year or two... After that, some genius is going to decide that since it works so well, the police should just be able to contact On-Star on their own and push the stop... Just in case the owner doesn't realize that their vehicle is missing... *wink wink*
And wouldn't it be fun to be driving through Atlanta on the interstate during rush hour (90+ MPH and 2 - 3 inches between all vehicles), and have that system malfunction and slow down your engine??? Think of the fun of going from 90MPH to 10MPH in the middle of 5 lanes with no where to go... Hope On-Star would be willing to notify your next of kin...
