Well I was gone to see family for the weekend and I come back home to boot up my trusty PC, and nothing! It died over the long weekend. I even had it unplugged while I was gone and it just died. My hard drive is fine so, no data is lost. I am going to be gone for a week to do some PC installs anyhow, but I will not be gaming online for a couple of weeks. Gotta try a put back some money to get some new parts... Evil or Very Mad

So far I know for sure the video card. I think the motherboard might be toast as well.

If both of those are toast, there's a good chance you may have had a faulty PSU. What kind was it and how much did it cost? Sometimes if you go cheap on the PSU, you will pay for it later with much more $$$$ than a good PSU would have cost.

I did some more testing and the video card is bad and the power supply is bad as well. It was a 350 watt Raidmax power supply. Still haven't had time to test motherboard, had to pack for a week long trip. Hated to leave the family without a computer for a whole week. Shocked

That was your problem right there. Go with a name brand next time, especially one that does not come with a case.

Agreed. These days, the P/S has become an EXTREMELY important part of any PC build.

Yeah, I was in bad need of an upgrade. I built this system almost 5 years ago. A 350 watt power supply THEN was awesome! <sigh> I need to set aside some cash and upgrade.

do I smell toast?

Commando and I both experienced fragged pc's from cheaper PSU's (wasn't it the raidmax???)

like I said before, any system build should have certain "no compromise" parts. the PSU is one of those parts.

It was DIABLO something. The only good thing about it was that it didn't fry my PC when it finally died. I bought a new $120 VANTEC 550 watter and its been working great ever since.
