Nero Installation Issues |
|
|
I had Nero 7 installed on my pc and it worked fine.
I Tried to install Nero 8, but it stated I needed to unistall Nero 7.
I then unistalled 7 and tried to install Nero 8 again.
Nero 8 keeps saying that 7 is still installed.
I checked installed programs in windows, and 7 is listed as still installed.
It does not give me an option to uninstall it from the windows programs list.
I then deleted all Nero folders and ran a registry cleaner and folder cleaner.
I used Haysoft WinPerfect to do the folder and registry cleaning.
I then tried 8 again and got the same message.
Still the same issue and 7 still listed in the windows installed program list.
I then tried to reinstall the Nero 7, but it states it cannot install due to a newer version already installed.
Now I'm very frustrated, I have never had an issue like this.
Anyone have any ideas?
I use Windows XP Pro 64 bit.

Ren, I was excited when I saw your post.
That is until I tried it and it still didn't help.
Nero 7 continues to show up in the windows add/remove programs list.
When I run the removal tool, it states that nero 7 is installed.
I then tell it to remove Nero 7 and it does.
The removal tool does give a few pop-ups stating that it can't find some stuff, but will continue anyways.
When it's done, it tells me to restart the pc.
No matter how many times I do the above, Nero 7 continues to show up in my installed list and the removal tool will always state it's there and try to remove it again.
I also tried to install Nero 8 several times and get the same results as my first post.
What I'm thinking is that the software is gone, but for some odd reason it's name is stuck in my add/remove programs list and this confuses everything.
Does anyone know how to remove the name from this list?
I searched the registry, but couldn't find anything that appeared to control what is in the list.
When I run WinPerfect, it no longer shows Nero 7 as a listed software.
I think windows thinks it's installed even though it is not.
Windows is probably then confusing the Nero 8 installer.
Like I stated before, I have never had an issue like this so I'm very confused.
Any ideas?

After uninstalling Nero 8 and running the cleaner that Ren gave you, try reinstalling 7, THEN see if you can get a clean uninstall of 7 again.

I do not have Nero 8 installed.
I can't reinstall Nero 7 or install Nero 8.
Nero 7 states a newer version of 7 is installed and won't overwrite.
Probably due to updates from my original version of 7.
Nero 8 states Nero 7 is installed and must be uninstalled first.
I am still in the same spot I was in with my first post.
Read my first post for more detail.
The removal tool did not make any difference to the existing situation.
Any other ideas?

go to start
select run
type in regedit
it brings up system registry
select find type in nero it will give all nero reg files on your system
delete as needed this may help
stubborn programs can be dealt with this way.

I like to use a tool called "Your Uninstaller" to get rid of outdated programs. I would recommend uninstalling it with that tool, then getting the latest Nero version.
I don't use all the other bloat in Nero, just the Burning ROM... so I use Nero 8 Micro Edition which is only like 30MB.

Mr Grimm, your idea did the job.
I am now a happy user of my Nero 8.
Thanks everyone for the different ideas, it is greatly appreciated.
