My submission to new Literary Review at school |

My Community College is having another Literary Review and I am sending in two submissions. One poem and one non-fiction essay. I thought you guys might appreciate this poem.
The Love of a Son
The firmness with which he holds my hand as we walk to the bus stop each morning.
The trust in his eyes as he asks about another of life’s mysteries.
The anxious query, “Can you play a game with me, daddy?” How can I refuse?
The glee with which he receives the message, “You win again!”
The pride of a new accomplishment; “Daddy come see!”
The innocence that I strive to protect; under constant attack.
The day is ending, his goodnight hug so firm, as though he does not wish to let go.
Please be a child for as long as you can, you will grow up soon enough.
I, too, wish for his hug to last.
Tomorrow the love begins anew.
