Two days ago I purchased a 13month xbox live gold subscription card off buy.com.
Today, I receive a call from my credit card company. "You're credit card is being used in california. It has been used twice. One at a gas station and another on the internet."
Luckily they caught it, and cancelled my card. I hope they catch the little theif.
Now I'm doing a full system scan for spy, viruses, etc.

Thank God it was a credit card and not your ATM card, they could have cleaned you out. And no we wont catch the crook either (I am a cop in CA) because a report has to be taken here for any CA cop to look into it. It is the most frustrating part of cop work, all the loop holes.

I don't know how but I just got through taking care of fraud on 3 seperate credit cards that belong to my father, all of which were in a drawer over here for the last few months. My dad didn't even have access to the card #'s and expirations to use the cards. If it had been spyware it would have involved my cards as well, so it was really weird. All from seperate banks too. There was US Bank, Citicards, and First National Bank of Omaha. Some were used with paypal and the screen names are for German sellers. The citi card they just ordered random crap online with...
Really funny part is that the people shipped some of the stuff they ordered to our old mailing address. The renters called and said there were packages there. So not only did I have explain to the bank what happened as well as get my dad to fill out all the fraud paperwork, but I had to call all these companies and tell them to pick up their crap.
I have no idea

The only time I was a victim of credit card fraude was when I got back from a trip to Washington DC in 2005.
About two months after my return, my VISA was charged 7 times (totalling € 2400, back then about $ 3000). It seemed it was spent on pizza's and liquor!!!
I do like both, but no, it wasn't me this time!
Anyway, I had the money back from VISA the very next day!! No questions asked.
