With the new version 3 of Firefox scheduled for release on Tuesday the 17th, I thought I would talk about some of my favorite "addons" for Firefox. Addons are little programs that extend or enhance the browser, and there are THOUSANDS of them available. Here are a few that I find really useful or clever.
AdBlock Plus
Blocks most of the advertising and banner ads on web pages. Make pages load a LOT faster without the redirects to advertising sites.

Download Status Bar
Adds a lot of functionality to downloading in Firefox. Shows downloads on the Status Bar on the bottom of the screen, with lots of info and control.

Pronounce
Highlight any word on the screen, right click, and you will be spoken the correct pronunciation from Dictionary.com.

GMail Notifier
If you use GMail, this adds an indicator on the status bar that shows how many new messages you have waiting, and lets you jump to GMail with one click. Supports multiple accounts.

QuickDrag
VERY useful addon that lets you drag any text and drop it (anywhere on the screen, the trick is to get used to just "flicking" it a millimeter or so) and it will automatically search for the text in Google. If you "flick" any URL you highlight, it will load that url in the browser in a new tab. If you "flick" an image, it will automatically download that image for you. Quite a time-saver.

ScreenGrab
Puts an icon on the status bar that lets you grab a screenshot of the web page you are on. It will get the whole screen / page, even stuff scrolled off the bottom.
