FIREFOX piece of crap upgrade!!!!!!!!!! |
|
|
Who else had Firefox auto update to version 3?
I auto updated while my wife choose to have it install and now our themes are all gone, our bookmarks are all gone....everything I had for my servers, banks, etc.
My Firefox won't work now with the Google add-on, nothing works with this crap! Anyone else have this problem?
I can't retrieve my bookmarks as I have tried everything on their forums and I am extremely pissed off right now.

Wow.. I upgraded to 3.0 the day it was released, and have since upgraded to 3.01 (a minor bug fix). I had no problems at all. You might search your hard drive for bookmarks.html (before you do any more in Firefox), to see if the external copy of your bookmarks that Firefox keeps is still around with your old data. If so, you can import this.
When did this happen? Today, yesterday?
Do get a copy of MozBackup for after this situation is straightened out. It keeps dated backups of all your bookmarks, setttings, themes, addons etc.

Thanks Eagle.
I just recently loaded Opera and funny thing is that all of my bookmarks are there in Opera!??!
I tried doing an update from the bookmarks in Firefox but I couldn't find any of my bookmarks. I saw some old ones but only a handful.
I'll test out Opera to see how it works. Thanks again.

I've had issues with the latest Firefox release as well... mainly how much slower it is. But I still find it useful.
Opera is a great browser... but I find it too time consuming when it comes to changing settings, opening menus etc.

Best to get a copy of MozBackup at:
http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/download.php
Run this every once in a while to back up all your bookmarks, settings, addons, themes etc... It keeps them in My Documents in dated backup files (so you can roll back as far as you need) and you can quickly (a few seconds) restore your firefox if you mess something up (accidentally delete a bookmark, run an addon that messes things up, ect.) If you have a REAL problem with Firefox you can uninstall, re-install, and then use MozBackup to apply a saved version and boom... You are completely fixed. DON'T USE FIREFOX WITHOUT THIS. I have little sympathy for those who don't back up their systems
Them: My blah blah software is messed up
Me: Try changing this...
Them: That didn't work!
Me: Drat! Ok, restore your backup from last night.
Them: Backup?
Me: Hang on, my phone is ringing...
After you are backed up, install FireTune:
http://www.totalidea.com/content/firetune/firetune-index.html
Run it and tell it what kind of computer / connection you have and it will tune Firefox very nicely. Really makes a difference, especially if you are on a fast computer with decent broadband, as Firefox is generically tuned to run on the "average" computer / connection.

Well since I got Opera going and it somehow found my bookmarks I am going to save them and them see if I can upload them to FF.
I do back up often but not so specific as to do FF. I'll keep that in mind now for sure.
Thanks all for the posts. Last night it really got to me because I needed those bookmarks because they have all my passwords and such to forums and I just wasn't in the mood to hunt them down!

Sounds like there is something hosed with your Firefox. I would be tempted (since you have your bookmarks in Opera) to completely uninstall Firefox, making sure to completely delete any "mozilla" directories. Then reinstall Firefox, export your bookmarks from Opera, load them into Firefox, then install fresh copies of the addons you use (be sure they are compatible with 3.x, not all have been updated).
