I got the "pre-beta" version of Window 7 today and installed it in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. Looks pretty good. I love some of the new GUI features, which you can check out in these links:

I have to get Ren set up with Windows 7 first. He's itching to install it.

So, I just finished watching that hour long video you posted in another thread and I have a couple questions seeing as how you have a copy and I haven't gotten around to getting it yet:

1. The demonstration never shows how the taskbar will handle programs that are brought up that aren't already listed. Can you tell me how it handles that?

2. How do you tell if the application is closed if the icon is always sitting on the taskbar?

You can "pin" applications to the toolbar, which is much the same as the "Quick Launch" feature in XP or Vista.

If you run an application is has a bigger icon with text next to it and kinda "glows". The "pinned" applications are just icons. It's easy to visually tell which are running and which are just "pinned".

You can drag and drop and icon to pin it, or when you hover over an icon on the toolbar it shows a little arrow to the right which offers options like "pin this application" or "unpin this application".

Mine kinda looks ugly because I am running it in a "virtual machine" and the emulated graphics won't run Aero... ;-(

To be honest I may not end up using the "pin" feature much anyway. I like ObjectDock and will probably continue to use that. I do like the other fetures of the new taskbar though, like the "peek" feature and such.
