Anyone have them know anything bout them?
starting to need somewhere to put my music might get one

I bought a Western Digital My Book. It was definitely one of the best investments that I've made. It's 320 gigs, so I had plenty of room to transfer my music, pictures, movies, and other odds and ends without any problem. You can also hook it up to a 360 or PS3 and view all of your files on there.

The only downfall I've seen is that since it's FAT32 format, the maximum size file you can fit on there is roughly 4 gigs. If you have a movie that's larger, you'll have to chop it down or just keep it on your computer.

You can reformat it to NTFS so you can hold larger file sizes, but I think the consoles won't read it after that.

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, but either way, I couldn't live without one now.

Definitely go with the My Book. It gets great reviews.

One note.. The FAT32 format will give you trouble with Acronis if you want to use the My Book for backing up. Formatting with NTFS will correct this, but as Monkey says there may be issues using it with a console like an XBox or PS3 once you do.

I have a 160Gb spare inside my PC that I put junk on. My main HD is a WD 1TB I am greedy Smile

I also have a 500Gb Maxtor external I put my music and films on that then put it back in the box.

I've seen an ad for a 500GB Seagate that's portable and small that looks pretty promising.. haven't read the reviews yet.
