Hey, guys, I have a virus problem that is driving me nuts. It is called the Firefox/Google Hijack Virus. I use the Firefox browser with the Google search bar in the upper-righthand corner. When I type in a search item, let's say "COD2 Servers," the regular Google page comes up with its list of COD2 Servers. If I click on one of the links I am taken to a different website, usually trying to sell me something, or trying make me use a different search engine. If I delete that page and continue to click on the link I eventually get to the page I really want.

I have run a dozen different spyware/anti-virus programs trying to find and eliminate it, but to no avail. Studdog took over my computer and did some registry cleaning, which seemed to work for a few hours, but the virus is back again. And NO, I haven't been going to Shaved Sheep.com again, so that can't be where its coming from. Seriously though, my browsing habits haven't taken me to any unusual websites and I haven't opened any suspicious e-mails.

If any of you have heard of this thing and have any ideas on how to get rid of it please let me know. I really need to get rid of this annoyance. Thanks!

I haven't heard of this specific one, but I have heard of similar ones... Your best bet is to uninstall both goole tool bar and firefox, as well as all the updates, and then after a cold reboot (power off, power on), reinstall firefox... I never install any tool bars from google, yahoo, or anywhere else, since they always want to use up bandwidth to connect to their "home base", even if you are not using them at the time... And ANY open connection to the internet is another open door for nasty things to get in... So the fewer doors you leave open, the better off you are...

Go to the folders I mention below and delete ALL files that look suspicious:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ ANY SUSPICIOUS FILES

HKEY_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ ANY SUSPICIOUS FILES

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ ANY SUSPICIOUS FILES

I can’t mention any specific file name, because Google hijack virus can have any random file name. However computer experts will not have any trouble sniffing them out, so let me know if you want help.
Once you have gotten rid of those suspicious files, restart your computer and test it out. Make sure that everything is functioning correctly. If you find any suspicious reactions or you keep being redirected then the infection has gotten severe. In this case we need to resort to the second option.

2nd option: Use your antispyware. You should also update it and then run a thorough scan and see if Google hijack is detected. If your antispyware fails to detect it, get a better antispyware. I really suggest using Avast, which should help you get rid of Google hijack once and for all! I suggest using Avast for your antivirus and antispyware. I don’t care what you have, uninstall it and give Avast a try and you will be happy!

And lastly, run that registry cleaner I gave you.
You can also do an uninstall of Firefox/Google before doing any of the above steps. Then after doing the above, just reinstall them.

Have you tried malwarebytes ? That should remove it. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ You will probably have to turn system restore off to as it will most likely hide in there as well.

Yeah, Ren, I've tried that and about a dozen other spyware/malware removers. Nothing has found it.
