IMPORTANT!

There has been a change to the structure / folders used by COD 5 for custom maps as of the 1.4 patch

The map .iwd files are no longer kept in ../mods/uza but are kept in the map folders for each map under ../usermaps/mp_mapname

YOU MUST remove the map .iwd files (mp_mapname.iwd) from ../mods/uza

IF YOU DON'T, YOU WILL CRASH EVERY TIME YOU TRY TO PLAY A MAP

Two ways to do this:

1) Easy method, but you will have to re-download the maps when you first play them again.

Delete the entire ..mods/uza folder
Delete the entire ../usermaps folder

2) More work, but you won't have to re-download anything.

Move the mp_mapname.iwd files from ../mods/uza to ../usermaps/mp_mapname
In other words, put each .iwd from ../mods/uza into THE CORRESPONDING folder in ../usermaps.

Where are these folders?

Window Vista

Go to start -> computer
Double-click on C:
Double-click on the users folder
Double-click on the folder that has your Windows username
Double-click on the AppData folder
Double-click on the Local folder
Double-click on the Activision folder
Double-click on the CoDWaW folder

C:\Users\your_name\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\mods\uza
C:\Users\your_name\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\usermaps

Windows XP

Go to start -> My Computer
Double-click on C:
Double-click on the Documents and Settings folder
Double-click on the folder that has your Windows username
Double-click on the Local Settings folder
Double-click on the Application Data folder
Double-click on the Activision folder
Double-click on the CoDWaW folder

C:\Users\your_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CoDWaW\mods\uza
C:\Users\your_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CoDWaW\usermaps

Please NOTE: It is not enough to just delete the .iwd files from ../mods/uza. It will still crash. You EITHER need to delete both the ../mods/uza and ../usermaps/mp_mapname directories entirely or move the .iwds from ../mods/uza to ../usermaps/mp_mapname

I know this is a big hassle, but this new way of storing the map files is a huge improvement. I am very hopeful that it is going to fix the problems folks have with the game crashing or hanging when switching maps we have all seen from time to time. This problem was caused by having all the .iwd fiiles for all the maps in one place, so the server/client was basically loading them ALL when you joined a map, and there were huge problems with conflicts between map .iwd files. This should make things a lot more stable.

Double-click on the folder that has your Windows username
Double-click on the Local Settings folder
Double-click on the Application Data folder
Double-click on the Activision folder

If you dont' see the "Local Settings" folder under your username, you will need to go to "Folder Options" and click the checkbox that says "Show hidden files and folders".
