Here, The Sun's Travel Editor reveals some of the barmier rules from around the world.

FRANCE: Paris may be the city of love but don't think you can get carried away on the journey - in France it is illegal to kiss on railways.

Touching a woman's bottom is also off limits on Paris's Metro underground system - but, weirdly, touching their breasts is allowed.

ITALY: In a nation of Romeos, it is NOT illegal to pinch a girl's bottom

But here's a tip for stag parties (and Scots): A man can be arrested for wearing a skirt and it is illegal to go bare-chested in Rome.

And don't be tempted to take a dip in a fountain - the penalty is a heavy fine.

HOLLAND: The country's relaxed attitude to smoking marijuana attracts millions of visitors to Amsterdam each year. But it is only legal to smoke it in licensed "coffee shops". Doing the same down the road in Eindhoven, for example, would be illegal.

And don't push the easy-going nature of Amsterdam too far.

If you sink one too many beers, do not relieve yourself in a canal - it is against the law... unless you are pregnant.

BELGIUM: In Brussels, it is legal to throw Brussels sprouts at tourists - although incidents are increasingly rare.

And if you are a Man United, Arsenal or Liverpool fan in Antwerp, beware - it is illegal to walk down the street wearing a red hat.

GERMANY: Still a little tetchy more than 40 years on, it is against the law to mention the date 1966 in any football ground over there.

But the Germans do have some sense of humour.

During Munich's legendary Oktoberfest, no person is ever deemed drunk in legal terms, no matter how much alcohol they have downed.

GREECE: A further warning to stag and hen parties - in Athens it is illegal to dance naked in the Acropolis.

However, if you get into a spot of bother with a Turkish tourist while in Greece, you might get away with a duel.

It is legal to strike anyone from Turkey with a small sword - except on alternate Mondays.

As a group of British plane-spotters found out a few years ago, it is illegal to take photos or look through binoculars near military or government installations. Penalties can include long jail terms.

TURKEY: It is an offence to insult the Turkish nation or the national flag, or to deface the national currency. Penalties can be severe.

But don't think the less obvious laws aren't just as serious - stealing olives from trees before they are ripe can result in a jail sentence of up to two years.

Elsewhere, nude bathing is illegal in INDIA, even in trendy resorts such as GOA.

Topless sunbathing is illegal on most beaches in FLORIDA.

It is against the law to make rude gestures or swear in public in BAHRAIN, the UNITED ARAB EMIRATES and KENYA. You could face a severe fine.

Jessica Reading, of Laterooms.com, said: "Having spent so much time looking forward to a well-deserved break, it is important to do your homework when it comes to local laws.

"Nobody wants to spend their valuable holiday time worrying about fines or, worse still, jail.

"Researching your destination can be fun, too, and you may stumble across some very unusual local laws so it is better to be prepared.

"As the research shows, a lot of us need to brush up on the dos and don'ts when visiting a foreign country
