Wife wants to get herself a new camera for christmas... She is looking at something like the Cannon Rebel D-SLR... Any recommendations or explanations of what I should be looking at??? It needs to be good for indoor pictures of the cats, as well as outdoor pics of stuff like the Grand Canyon... Any help will be greatly appreciated, since other than more MP=better quality (I think) I know almost NOTHING about cameras... |

I am a big Canon fan and most of my cameras are Canon. I have the Canon EOS REBEL T1i and a few lenses and attachments for it. I shot my first wedding this summer. I use my camera indoors and outdoors. I haven't look at any of the new ones out there. Depends if she wants to carry around a big camera or a smaller one or if she wants to try out different lenses. I know there are a few Nikon fans. There are a lot of review sites on cameras. Here a just a couple... http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/ http://www.steves-digicams.com/camera-reviews/ |

I have a Canon compact camera and a Nikon DSLR. I like using both of them. The Canon's menu is easier, but I like my Nikon best because I want to be able to manually select all settings. My Nikon allows me to do that in an easier way, probably because I know all its ins and outs. As CG stated, it all depends on whether your wife wants to have a small camera that is easy to take wherever you go, or go for a bigger camera with multiple lenses. It goed without saying that the amount of money you want to spend on a camera plays a roll in that too. These days there are so many excellent compact cameras out there and at great prices too! But then again, DSLR's are relatively cheap too nowadays. Whatever you select, I would recommend her doing a photography course. Not until when I did a beginners course, a few years ago, I used my DSLR mostly on "automatic". Such a course will give you insight of how to use the different settings of the camera and photography in general. Things like composition, depth of field (DOF), focus, white balance etc. etc. are discussed. A course like that is well worth the money. Good luck, and let us know what you bought her... |

I would love to take a photography course. Also there are a lot of good tutorials online, which I have used. But if she can't decide on what size of camera...there is nothing wrong with having lots of cameras. I usually carry one with me. |
