So last night my dog and me got swarmed by 3 pitbulls, he got bitten a few times, and now im royally pissed.
I had come home from the pub and took my dog out to do his business, but then out of no where they came running, instant pack mentality. The lead dog hit him first, and they kept going, whisky(my dog) bit the one on the face really hard opening up its entire muzzle. after the guy came running like nothing is to serious and telling me to take my dog away, i kicked his main pitbull in the face multiple times knocking it out. But his other dogs kept going, he grabbed his dogs and ran away.

I plan on sending out homemade flyers in my complex area to find out who it is, and to warn them about the dogs. Most likely will be calling Pet and Wildlife control, if nothing happens i will take matters into my own hands, i dont like that i hate harming a dog, but off lease pitbulls who attack are a different story, i love pitbulls my friend has some, but these dogs are terrible. I might have to shoot them myself since they thought nothing of it, my dog now has to go to the vet in a few hours for stitches and he might have a infection his leg is shacking uncontrollably. My dog is everything to me, hes family and i will protect my family.

Anyone here ran into bad dogs?

That is just awful! So scary!! like Studdog says , what if next time its a child? People should not be allowed to keep ferocious animals like this and need to be reported for everyone's safety. Please let us know how your dog is ...so glad you weren't hurt too!! Let's hope the authorities do something about it !

I am very sorry to hear this. It is so sad there are such irresponsible pet owners who have trained or let these dogs become ferocious. I know people who have pitbulls also and they are the sweetest pets. I agree with Stoodog, what if it is a child...or anyone.

I would report this to the authorities and I do hope the owners of these pitbulls are dealt with. It is unfortunate that these dogs might have to be put down because of some people's irresponsibility and stupidity.

For myself I have not run into any dogs like this..I have had a pitbull come running at me at full speed and stop (I could hear my heart beating that time)...the dog park at the end of 14th street SW...he stopped. (don't like that area) I have worked with dogs that owners can't train...but in the end you need to train the owners first.

I am so glad to hear you and Whisky weren't harmed seriously. Please keep us updated. I agree with you about protecting family.

Unbelievable. I hear ya, dude. None of my dogs have ever been attacked before, but I guarantee you, if I see some vicious, unleashed dogs go after my dogs on my property, I WILL shoot them, no warning shots, either. I don't care who they belong to, and if I'm where I can't carry a gun, I'll pull my knife out and jab that motherf**ker until it stops moving. I love dogs myself, they're my favorite animals, but I love my dogs more than any other, and I'll do whatever I have to do to protect them.

I think the thing that really perturbs me about situations like this is that the owners of such dogs always have the excuse, "But he/they are such sweet animals and have never done anything like that before." You've heard them all. Hey, I got news for you Mr. Pitbull owner, THEY'RE PITBULLS!!! Look it up! They were bred to fight and be vicious. It's in their DNA.

Remember when the tiger in the Siegfried and Roy show attacked his owner? All the usual excuses - "Just not like the cat to do that. So unexpected. They have always been so docile. Yada, yada, yada." They are animals. They don't have the same means of controlling their animalistic urges that humans are capable of (not that humans always do such a great job). I'm sorry if this offends anyone, as I know many of you are animal lovers, but the reality is that certain breeds are predisposed to violent behavior and Pitbulls are one of them. If someone is going to own such a breed they should face strong penalties, including long jail sentences, if their animals injure others.

I agree 100%. Animals act purely on instinct, NOT on a moral or logical basis. They have none, so you can't hold them fully responsible. It's the owners fault. I have a bulldog, and while she can be very cute and dorky at times, she is very aggressive and has given me countless bruises and scratches on my arms, and she tore one of my shirts. So when we take her out for walks occasionally, we have to really strap her down, and I'm usually the one holding her rather than my mom because she is VERY strong and if you don't have your footing, she'll drag you everywhere.

Cynic I am not sure that I agree with these comments: "They were bred to fight and be vicious.", and “Pitbulls are predisposed to violent behavior”. I believe Pitbulls were actually bred to be loyal working dogs. I think what you should mean is that some people breed them to fight, look big and mean, and be vicious. When that is done, you are very correct that temperament can be passed through genetics. That's why to own any powerful breed it is wise to know the breeders dogs and have a professional evaluate the temperament after you get one. When a Pitbull is bred to have a good temperament, they make wonderful pets. They have a bad rep due to the damage that they can do when not raised carefully. I have seen a far greater percentage of ankle biters that have bad temperaments. The difference is you will never see a headline “Man mauled to death by Chihuahua” or “Labrador Retriever killed by a Yorkie” or “child viciously killed by wiener dog”. They just can’t do that kind of damage. I would imagine there are a lot more bites and attacks by little dogs that NEVER get reported, but a Pitbull will almost always be reported.

I do very strongly agree with you that if someone is going to own a powerful breed they should face strong penalties, if their animals injure others, but I also feel that way about wimpy breeds and all other animals. If you cannot 100% control your pet/animal, then you need to get help or lose it. I feel that way about any animal that is owned (Horse, Bull, Cat, Guinea Pig, ect…). There may be exceptions like an act of God, but generally it is the owners that need to be held accountable.

Since I own a Rottweiler, even though she is a gentle giant, she will be soon going to a specialist for one day. They will test her temperament with people, dogs, ect… Then after that we are going to join a club with a dog park. The park is divided by the dog’s temperament, size, and some other prerequisites. There are always several trained professionals that watch the dogs and intervene if needed. Then we will enroll her into dog classes. These are the kind of things that owners should do to be responsible owners.

I do agree with you Stoodog...yes certain breeds are more dominant and require more training. I have seen many pitbulls and they are sweet pets... But to directly blame the dog for being this way...I don't.... I have trained a little Rottie puppy for someone and when i was walking it one day...I heard someone say, "it is one of those devil dogs."

I have seen many dog owners who have no control over their dog..and they think it is cute.... their constantly barking little terrier...to a larger dog who they keep locked up. (both on our block) My little terrier was more work training then my 2 husky crosses.

Cynic I don't agree with you about your comment about pitbulls..... & I would rather train a pitbull then a lion...but we could take this out to a parking lot if you would like....I can bring Scrappy... my 7 pound yorkie with attitude. ...I will leave the knife at home.

But i have had an issue with my dogs being hurt...by people. The issue with my crazy neighbours, that has gone for years.... Police..lawyers...etc... We know they have tried to poison our dogs...never seen my dogs so sick...they also killed a couple of our trees & have done the same to other neighbours....... to prove it when they are so dishonest...very difficult.

They have lied so much to police etc....lied about themselves etc...and have gotten away with hurting everyone around them...their excuses....that is why i do not leave my dogs unattended when we are not home. They even phoned bylaw on us, as one of our dogs was looking them thru the fence.

I have no respect for anyone who lies especially when hurting my family. Anyways the neighbours have been quiet lately, except for some of her episodes she has. Other then them the rest of our neighbours are wonderful and also keep an eye on our dogs for us.

Hey thanks folks, The housing Committee where i live is looking into it for me and most likely the owners will be evicted. I have city Bylaw pet officers investigating. Hes going to pay for my bill no matter what, it was 600$ for surgery, he was bitten 3 times on the upper thigh, a 4 inch incision a 2 inch and one under a inch. It was also infected and he has drainage pipes which look pretty bad, so he leaks fluids alot, hes on what i call "doggy morphine" and antibiotics. Whisky is only a year and half old CG, boys not even neutered yet lol.
