It dosent say it wont be in the pacific.
This also looks good, why would it lose long time fans? are they just talking about fans of the 4th one? cause that wouldnt be long time fans.
I am looking forward to another WW2 game, nothing wrong with that.
and i have been playing them since the first one, so i guess that makes me a long time fan

I dont see why they dont do a fictitious war... like a modern day war w/ russia, china, north korea.. or some middle eastern terrorists.

I'd like to see a war with Mexico......or Panama...or maybe even Columbia. It would be like COD4 except all the enemies would have sticks and rocks to throw at us.
CG would have fun with her knife.

A few details I found of the upcoming cod5 - World at War. This looks great as it's in WWII's Pacific Theater. ARTICLE HERE
The game is going to be grittier, have scarier enemies with new tactics and contain co-op modes. There will be co-op for the first time in a Call of Duty. Also there will be vehicles and squad-based elements to the multiplayer. This is how gritty it is: The opening scene of the first level we are shown is a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat - the blood splatters and dribbles down the side of the tent you are being held in. He turns towards you to deal out the same treatment but help arrives just in time. Cue a daring level-long escape.
From these screenshots we learn that snipers are tied to their foliage vantage points by rope and will dangle down when shot. We also find out that as the battlefield is a little more vicious than before, so you will be able to swim through lakes and swamps.
The Japanese enemies will carry Katana swords which they will happily use against you when they get close. You can of course, torch them with a flamethrower if you’d prefer.
Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith has stated that the next installment of Call of Duty would make its way to the DS, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360. Release date: Fall 2008

I think Civil War games and wars in the 1800s wouldn't fly very well because of the musket rifles. It's aim, fire and then reload for a good minute or so.
I'd love to see a Pacific Front. I think it would be awesome to sit in some kind of AAT on a battleship shooting down kamikaze pilots. That would be sweet. After that, they should do something that stretches into the future a little bit, kind of like Frontlines, which I haven't played yet.

They already did that with medal of honor that was set in the pacific and you got to shoot down kamikaze from a battleship, very short game for the ps2.
