One of the coolest things they are adding is the ability to play the SINGLE PLAYER game in "co-op" mode with up to three other players against the computer AI enemies. So we will be able to form teams of four and go do the single player together. Nice feature...

I did mean "single player" in the meaning of the "scripted" or "story" part of the game as opposed to the usual multiplayer where you are thrown in an empty map with other human players to kill each other.
Strictly speaking it wouldn't be "single player" if you are with three buddies of course.

Sounds very cool......but I am wondering where did COD4 go wrong or bad?
I mean it was all hot cakes for a few weeks then it fizzled out quicker than a Paris Hilton movie.
For me COD4 almost had too much going on in terms of airstrikes, copters, flash and stun nades then the choice of perks, classes, etc. I would just rather pick a weapon or 2, auto assign and get into action.
Lets hope that COD5 keeps some of the original charm so it has the same longevity as COD and UO. If it stays a Pacific theater type game I believe that it should go a long way in terms of interest because I wasn't all that impressed with MOH's Pacific release.

Amen brother. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid).
It's a game. I have to use my brain all day at work. I want to just sit back and rely on instincts when I play games.

Just my opinion, but I think COD4 blew it with a "ranking" system that precluded using custom maps on a "ranked" server. Everyone liked the ranking up and working toward getting the bonus achievements and all that, but playing on the same 16 maps or so got old in a hurry. On a custom maps server you have to select your weapon and a bunch of perks between EACH map, which just is a pain.
I think a combination of UO's ranking-per-map where you get more / better nades, satchels, airstrikes etc. as you get kills in the map, combined with the permanent earned ranking feature of COD4 but with the ability to create and store and use "classes" which are available with a single click on both a ranked and unranked server.

This is the first game I've ever bought on two systems and actually play it more for 360. The console version with Xbox Live is actually a lot more fun, and seems it was better designed for it. I know thats a weird thing to think since I defend PC's with a passion, but the perk system works well on there. There is also more to work for with the prestige system. I also think that the servers are too large for CoD4. It plays much better with only 12 or so people. I know a lot of us enjoyed more of the 50 player battles. It just doesn't work in this game.

Well I reckon it can be said that we all pretty much agree that COD4, at least for PC, was not well designed.
Lets hope they do COD5 justice. By the way, don't they seek the input and advice from the ACTUAL players on these games???
I mean the latest releases of games all seem to lack something......which I believe is "immersion in game play". I think back to the first release of UT. It was a great game but is was that way because it was so very simple. Whether playing with bots or on-line (which was a drag seeing as dial-up was the only choice many people had) you just picked your weapon and got into some serious fragging. The interest was in the annihilation of your opponents and not so much into trivial stuff.
I enjoyed the ranking up of UO and nothing was sweeter than hitting a spawn point with arty!! COD2 keeps many of us playing but that's getting old fast because no more maps are being made for that game so something needs to come along and hopefully they do us gamers right with COD5.

I agree with freak. I can't believe they didn't do co-ops with any other games the past couple of years. I loved doing co-op with Ranger, and my dad a while ago with Ghost Recon, and I loved the co-ops with my cousin in Halo 2 and 3. Only thing I hated about co-op on Halo was that I was using a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard, which is real uncomfortable for me, and the split-screens.
I also hope that CoD goes back to it's origins where you pick your side, and you pick your sides weapons. No ranking systems, either. I think IW was trying too hard to be some kind of BF (and then trying to do better with perks). They should leave that to EA, and do things Call of Duty style.
And on a more picky note, I hope they take the knifing out of the picture. I have to complain a little more and say that I hate the knifing in CoD4. Mostly because when you knife someone, you have to really nail them, or you're pretty much screwed. Also because CG is a ninja with that thing.

I'll be interested in seeing how well the new/returning features such as vehicles, swimming and semi-destructible environments are implemented - the co-op being the addition I'm most excited about.

From the COD 5 trailer:
If CG gets to use that in multiplayer, we're doomed.
