It was really gusty that day (you can see from the takeoff how I was instantly blown offline and had to use a ton of right rudder as soon as I left the ground. On the landing I was lazy and just crabbed down, then straightened up a bit early and got blown off center line (the little bit of balloon in ground effect didn't help). I should have slipped down, (right aileron, left rudder) and lost a bit more airspeed earlier so I could plant the numbers. I usually am a bit long and fast on 35 at JYO. As you can see there are dense woods right up the end of the runway, and I have a tendency to be a bit high in the glidepath so I don't get leaves in the spokes. I am just VFR. I don't have any real need for the expense of IFR traning just to do $100 hamburger flights, and the times I have flown with an instructor in IFR conditions I just didn't find it as much fun. Half the fun is watching the world go by out the windows.
