Not sure. I'd need to see some more "testimonials" from people who don't work for them before I spent $299 (NewEgg) for a NIC.

I'm with LoneEagle... Checked it out on NewEgg, $229 seems like a lot of money for an NIC... And there are a lot of mixed reviews on the NE website...

Maybe in a year or two when the price has gone down, and the version numbers are a little higher...

Here's a trick I saved and have always done for my network connections. I always use the built in MB network connection:

Have you ever found your computer slowing to a crawl when working on the network? That's because WindowsXP by default, uses your CPU to process network tasks instead of off loading them onto the network card which obviously chews up less resources.

Luckily if you have a good network card you can force Windows to do all the calculations at the network card instead of on your processor.

First load up regedit (start -> run then type regedit and press ok). >From there follow this path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services -> Tcpip -> Parameters and find/create the DisableTaskoffload DWORD value. Set its value to 0 then save and reboot.

Once that's done WindowsXP will use your NIC's processing power to handle any network tasks instead of the main processor. I found that the DWORD value was not there in XP Professional, so I had to create it.

Is anyone else aware of this and have any comments? I don't know much about networking, but this has always seemed to help me. I use windows XP Pro 64 and 32 bit.

Let me know how it works for you.

I would like to know what someone who knows more about networks thinks of this idea. Hint Eagle Hint Hint. Wink

I have always used it myself with no problems.
