Best bet is to format the PC, install Vista, apply SP1, then install drivers and software. Clearly SP1 is having trouble with something already on the comptuer, my bet would be a third party driver...

I agree with Eagle. I had no problems with SP1, but my sons computer was another story wiped the slate clean then installed with no problems

Eagle, D.O.A. thanks, I'm over it and now Mrs.UD has it! I know indirectly it's still mine but ur right, wipe the driver and start over. That may be an option but she doesn't want to lose all of her school work and pics right now, so she can talk with microsuck tonite... if they even call!!! Evil or Very Mad

I promise you they are going to suggest exactly the same thing. Her / your time today would be better spent on getting her data backed up to CD or DVD or to a free online file storage site or to your PC (if you guys can file share over a wireless network) or to your PC with a null modem cable if all else fails.

I don't have any experience with Vista, but if it's anything like updating XP, you will want to format again. Hit up the update site and install what updates you can before it prompts for SP1, then install it. I know with XP, if you slap on the service packs before getting other smaller updates, it will botch the install as it did with me once. You almost want to get it running without the service pack as if it hadn't come out yet. Get all your drivers installed, and other updates... then the last thing to slap on is SP1.

Tursday's update... 5-7:30pm!

An Indian fellow who wanted to be called "John", called and proceeded with all the steps in his play book and still nothing. Go figure... Shocked

To make a long story short... in the end he advised "do you have the "Vista source disk" that came with the puter?" NO... sony doesn't include one with this model of desktop. Sad I told him I did make a dvd "recovery disk" as recommended by sony but he said that wouldn't do! Did I know anyone who had a Vista source disk? NO I don't, John said "ok" let me resarch this and I'll call U back tomorrow (Friday) bout 5pm.

He did finally advised before he said goodby... U might have to reinstall vista! Mad

Sweet! My '73 is still out getting more rusty. I'm looking to move where I can finally have a garage! Very Happy

I had a 440 but sold it for $150. It was out of a '76 New Yorker. I still have the 727 though Wink
