Just finished Ann Coulter's book and am starting on American Brutus - John Wilkes Booth and the Lincoln Conspiracies by Michael W. Kauffman (Random House).

This is one of the most comprehensive accounts of all the events leading up to, during, and after the assassination.

Ok, finished American Brutus and you know what, it ends the same way all the other Lincoln books do; Lincoln gets killed. Actually this book goes into greater detail about all the participants, and suspected participants, in the plot. It also follows some of the folks that were involved after the trial. For example, did you know that Sgt. Boston Corbett, the Union cavalry sgt. who shot Booth, had gone through a religious conversion prior to the war? In an effort to eliminate the temptation that women presented to him he cut off his own testicles with a knife. Shocked Surprised I'd feel like shooting someone, too.

I am now reading General Lee's Army by Joseph T. Glatthaar. This is a compilation of letters and other documents written by and about the soldiers in the ranks of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. It tells the story of the hardships of the war from the "grunts" point of view.
