I know that I had a fan on the top of my case and the case came with a psu but when I took their psu out and put the one I bought in it wouldnt fit due the the fan. So I had to take the fan out of the top so their is a big missing spot their.
Confused

It has the wrong motherboard connectors? Then maybe your original power supply didn't go bad! You better check and make sure the connector on your motherboard isn't what went bad. Sometimes those connectors will go bad and change into a completely different type of connection. I would hate to see you buy another and find it wasn't the problem. Alway call Mr. Obvious before attempting to do something new and complicated. Mr. Obvious has been a life saver to me many times.

Also, to get thru the quickest when calling; State you are a longtime listener and first time caller. That will give you priority over Cynic and Gomer.

well, i installed the new power supply and got a blue screen when i booted into the desktop saying my hardware has a problem and to shut down before any damage can occur....UGH! I guess according to a couple of sources, it may not be a powerful enuf power supply for my computer...I will look on saturday for a new one....hopefully I will be in soon guys!

Look over your motherboard to see if any of the capictors are swelling...the tops of them should be flat, but if they are rounded on the top it is a sign of a failing motherboard.

Here is a link of what they look like...
http://cquirke.mvps.org/badcaps.htm

If you have more than one memory chip try booting with just one of them. If one doesn't work try the other one by itself.

Check to see if your BIOS/CMOS has a built in hard drive utility. Run that to see if your hard drive is bad.

Finally, start removing cards that you might not need. For example use the onboard video card instead of the one plugged in the PCI or AGP slot. If you have a better sound card than the onboard one take it out. TV Tuners, extra USB slot cards, etc.

Give it a spin and let me know.
