Personal Goal |
|
|
Some of you know that I was bitten by the fitness bug a year or so ago. I was overweight, had high blood pressure, taking cholesterol meds, and generally felt like crap. To make a short story long, I had sort of a self realization and decided to change my life. Well, it took a lot of motivation, heart, willpower, intestinal fortitude, and many many other descriptive words, but I started working on me. I think it may have been harder than going to college for computer science and working a full time job at the same time. Along the way I have managed to drop 88 pounds and I feel great. I am 6'4" and my starting weight was 287(maybe more). This morning I weighed 199. The cool thing is that I may have even found a bit of self respect along the way. Anyway, to get to the real story, When I started I couldn't even run on a treadmill for a minute without having to stop. My shins and feet would hurt the next day and for weeks after. I have battled through it and have gotten better. Tomorrow (Monday) I am going to run in the Eglin Air Force Base Gate to Gate run. Its 4.4 miles and one of the larger organized runs in the area. This run one of the bigger goals that I set for myself last year and I am actually a bit nervous about it. However, I have been training hard over the last couple of weeks and I feel fairly confident that I can surpass the distance. This may not be all that far for some people, but its huge from where I started. I am happy that this moment in my life is finally here and I wanted to share it with the UZA regs. Even though I may not win the race, I think I will beat the run.
Thanks for reading

Wow! That's extremely impressive. It just goes to show what a little will power and motivation can do. I'm sure you'll do great in the race!
I too have suffered from weight problems for a long time due to some major stomach problems I had been suffering from. I've went to doctor after doctor and finally got one to prescribe me medication that helped with it. I was backwards from you though cmos. I had entirely too much trouble gaining weight, but I have managed to put on roughly 35 pounds since I started the medication.
I'm not trying to jack your thread or anything. I just want to let you know that you're not alone in the fight against weight problems. Stay strong man and keep doing what you're doing. It's truly rewarding.

Yeah man!!! You'll do just great. I started the same thing you did but now with my parents visiting it's hard to maintain.
To date I've lost 16 LBS in 5 weeks but haven't lost an ounce in the past 2 weeks - haven't gained either so that's good. Once they go back home, I'll hit the gym again.
You should post before and after shots for us - it's something to be proud of.

Thanks for the kind words. Either way Munky its a tough battle. Good luck with yours.
Bogey, I know the pain of maintaining!
I will try to find some decent before pics so you can REALLY see. I don't have any new ones maybe my wife can take a couple tomorrow. I wanted to post in a pic in that other thread. I'll see what I can do.

next year try the Marine Corps Marathon. 26.6 miles of ground pounding fun.
man... when I was a camp david, i ran about 40 miles a week, worked out every day, and at 5'10" was 205 with a 28 inch waist. I've just started to get back into shape after pretty much doing nothing for the last 4 years. It's more mentally than physically challenging.
You overcame that big mental obstacle... that takes real commitment, and you, sir, are worthy of a hearty "Atta Boy!"
