I've been saving my money for a long time now, and I've almost got enough to purchase a TV for around $1200. Unfortunately, I've got caught up in the Plasma/LCD/DLP debate. They all have their pros and cons, but I still haven't made my decision yet.

The Plasmas have hardly any chance of burn in now, but their life is not as long.

LCD doesn't have the contrast ratio that the others do, but they have a longer life and generally cheaper than Plasmas.

DLP seems to be cheaper with an amazing picture, but some have complained of possible lag. A lot of what I have read said that this only happens in the older models, and there aren't any problems with it now.

Here's the TV I'm leaning toward at the moment:

My question to you is what are your experiences and what would you recommend as a TV primarily for gaming?

The way I understand it. Plasma has the best overall picture. They do have a life expectancy. I you would have to watch it for like 8 hours a day for 20 years before it died.

DLP looks great on HD. They look terrible on regular 480i. I think they do suffer from a rainbow affect after a while.

LCDs look pretty good. The regular 480i looks a bit blurred. I think you want a fast refresh rate though.

I have a friend that has a 61" Samsung DLP. It looks great in HD. When watching other stuff, however, it looks worse than my tube TV. As for gaming, I doubt that you could go wrong with any of them. If you are strictly using it for gaming then I might would go with the DLP. They are really bright and vivid in HD. There is no doubt that you will be playing in HD. Not to mention, they are usually cheaper.

That's basically my thoughts on the whole thing. The only problem that I can think of is the whole thing with watching basic cable. I know it's not going to look very good and we watch quite a bit of TV. I would love to have a HD CRT, but I just can't find one around the size I want and in my price range.

Don't get Plasma for gaming. To much ghosting (Although I prefer it for HD TV watching).

Don't get DLP unless it's going to be your main TV as well. To bulky if it's going to be in any other room other than the living room more than likely.

LCD is the best choice because of the size and less ghosting on fast moving games. They've gotten pretty darn cheap as of late as well.

My XBox 360 games looked amazing on mine.

I agree with Freak, my LCD looks very nice while playing my 360.

This will be my main TV for watching and gaming. My house is kind of the hang out on weekends so it will be getting a lot of use. The only thing I didn't like about the LCD my brother got was the picture looked like it dragged a bit during gaming. I don't know if that's a problem for a lot of them or not.

Do DLP's still have a problem with watching them in a bright room?

Not that I know of...But a DLP will be what you want, since you're going to use it for watching and gaming.

That's where I'm leaning the most now. The only thing that scares me is the viewing angle on it.

or, you could keep saving and get a new ultra high-def laser TV which will be coming out this XMAS. they are supposed to show 85 million colors compared to 22 million in the current high end plasmas, but have no burn in, no field of view disruption, no ghosting, and use about 25% of the power of current models.

I had a jvc dlp before I moved, it was great all the way around, view from any angle, crisp, deep blacks, clean whites, my nephews played ps2 on it, seemed fine., and it was not heavy or bulky at all. 52"

d-ila is looking pretty good these days
