I have a friend at work who needs to build a new computer as his old one is fried. HD's are in working order.
Budget: Would like to keep it around $600 (not including an LCD)
............Willing to go up to $1000 (including LCD)
He will be reusing is optical drives (2) and his case. And he has 2 IDE HD that he would like to continue using. So a total of 4 IDE connections. (Possibly use an add-on controller as many of the newer MB support only 2 IDE devices)
New items he will be purchasing:
Motherboard, CPU, RAM, Video card, PSU, and per my suggestion at least 1 SATA HD.
LCD would be minimum of 19" regular screen, possibly a 20" or 21" if he can get a decent one for around $200.
Purpose of computer: Programming, some gaming (mainly BF2), will be putting a VM on it for his family to use, and doing some photography.
Any and all suggestions welcome. I've put together a rough high and low build list, but would like more input. How would YOU build it.
