I can't figure out this tower audio layout. Everything is labeled different from my case/mobo. here is what I got (Asus P5B)

case labels are as followed
GRD
EAR L 1
EAR L 2
EAR R 1
EAR R 2
MIC GRN
MIC IN
MIC VCC

MOTHERBOARD LABELS ARE
legacy AC'97

MIC_L
MIC_R
LINE OUT_R
NC
LINE OUT_L
AGND
NC
NC
NC

Azalia

MIC2_L
MIC2_R
HP_R
JACK_SENSE
HP_L
AGND
PRESENSE#
MIC2_JD
HP_HD

As you can see nothing is labeled the same! I was wondering if anyone knew where each wire is supposed to go on the mobo???

It's too bad they don't just come up with a standard all in one plug for the motherboard to PC case audio connections. The many different wires with individual connections can be confusing. I had the same issues with mine. I just gave up on them. I don't really need them myself. I use the motherboard jacks for all my audio needs. Good Luck!

Actually, ASUS took the first step in this by creating the "Q-Connector". It's a small one peice connector that you connect all the wires to FIRST then just plug that one thing into the motherboard. SOOOO nice!!!!!!

This is the same motherboard as mine. P5B regular, not deluxe or nothing. I was rather hoping the Audio Problem was the same as I am getting on this board and was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

I get sound fine but when I have the volume up high on the headset I get crackling and when I will scroll the wheel on a webpage, the crackling will get louder. It seems to get louder the more I do things on it. However, I can stop this and is reported by a common issue with these boards, if I put one or two of the sliders (can't remember the name) to zero it stops but I still get sound without the crackle....great (see screenshot)

http://i4.tinypic.com/4pnhbns.jpg

But when I restart the computer or turn it on the next day I will get the crackling again. But simply clicking the slider even though it is set at zero will remove it again. It's really odd. It will stick at zero, but I must reclick it for the crackling to stop. It's not so much a problem, more of an annoyance niggle.

But about cable names. I had a similar issue with front USB connectors. The motherboard manual refered to cables I didn't have, and after putting them on the wrong connectors I in turn blew up my iPod and Camera which I am very dischuffed with. I then asked kindly at the guys at NEOWIN on their forums. I explained the situation, what cables I had and what cables the manual referred to and a member replied saying what each cable I had corresponded to. I suggest perhaps making an account on Neowin and asking on their forum?

Hope that helps

Jack
