Warning for 8800 nVidia 162.22 driver |
|
|
just went to update the Vista32 GPU drivers for my 8800 series and it caused a major catastrophuck...
it:
*shut off my PC and kept hanging at restart, had to be powered off manually for a minute
*disabled my entire wireless desktop, and I had to manually reconnect each device after several failed attempts... good thing I keep a wired mouse and keyboard around.
*reverted my graphics drivers to original stock... had to reload the previous drivers.
after struggling to get the wireless desktop up and running, the only thing that works is the keyboard... the media pad and mouse will not work/reconnect... I went through all the trouble shooting a dozen times and called logitech... the have no farking clue... so... $220 desktop set now only working at 33%.

no, didnt system restore as i had earlier today just gone and cleaned house, updated, added some new stuff... all without incident. It was about 4 hours later that I tired to update the video drivers and it crushed everything just opening up.

Does Vshita have a Settings and Files Transfer Wizard? Once you get it back you might run that and save a working configuration to a USB external drive, or just get Norton Ghost and make an image from a known good state. Just some thoughts as to safe guarding your stuff.

I find in those type of situations the use of a BFH comes in handy.

I'll stick with my Windows XP Pro 64 bit!
Never had a problem with it and runs very smooth.
After everyone helps Microsoft get all the bugs worked out, I'll consider moving up.
Good luck Ten*K! Doesn't sound like any fun!

I was one of the Vista skeptics but since I was building a new system I figured I would give it a real shot and see how it works. I freakin LOVE Vista x64! I'll never go back. It's been rock solid for me. Only one or 2 compatibilty issues but nothing show stopping at all and Aero is just plain seXy!
Oh, back on topic.. I've been running the 162.22 drivers for at least a week now with no problems at all.

I agree, vista rocks. Haven't had any trouble like that, and Microsoft came up
with patches last month for the coffee cup software I use , making vista even better

yeah... I'm loving vista now... but, I just tried to update to the new driver again, and everything crashed and still running the older driver. WTF? I'll just wait for the next one, I guess.

I would have thought a driver rollback would have fixed your issue. Pretty crazy.

I recommend updating to the most recent 163.69 drivers that I posted yesterday. Installed no problem (like everything else) and has been working a charm.
