I'm looking for a video card

I've been out of the game for new technology and video card chipsets. Not ready to upgrade my whole system yet, but just needing an AGP video card. I don't have PCI-express on my mobo, so it's just AGP for now.

Any suggestions for chipset and models?

Highest you can really/would want to go with AGP is 7900GS. But as they are so much more expensive than the PCI-Express counterparts, it's just money down the drain. Buying another AGP card is just delaying the innevitable I'm afraid. It's probably time to bite the bullet and upgrade.

Yeah I kinda knew that, but I just ain't got the funds right now to go that route. I may just try and find something to get me along, I'll start looking at ebay, as much as I hate to.

cyber, for the price of a 7900gs (7800 on down is just waste) in 8xAGP, you could get a pci express 7900gs and most of if not all of a new motherboard. the performance increase is a lot, , as multiple pipelines means more fps. a 79000GS PCIE will beat down a 7900GS AGP.

need your cpu and current ram. there are, for example, 20 available motherboards for an amd Athlon 64 X2 / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 between $25 and $50.

I would bet my gold sequin boxers that the intel boards are available in the same range.

same price, more performance, more possibilities. it's an easy upgrade to a newer card when its affordable.
