Advice needed: I'm setting up a new TV in my living room and need to run cable [TV] to it. I have cable in an adjoining bedroom, so it's a simple matter of drilling a hole in the baseboard, cutting the existing cable, putting in a "Y" and running it through the drilled hole.

My question: is this something a noob can do? How do I attach the fitting on the end of the cable? Are special tools needed? I'll need to install a Y and two fittings that attach to the Y and the new TV.

Thanks for the assistance.

all I did was drill a hole in the floor (or wall) and put a 2 way splitter on the line rather than splicing it. that way all you need is an extra cable to go from the 2 way splitter, through the hole and hook up to the tv in the other room....

no splicing, no extra tools, etc.

RadioShack is a good place to get cable parts and answers.
They tend to have about anything you would need for a do it your self job.

And yes cable is easy to work with.
It's pretty simple and straight forward.
Have fun! Wink

OK Bro's -- sounds like something even I can do. Embarassed I like BS's method - splitter then run two lines to each TV. No cutting, splicing, swearing, throwing things....well, you get the picture. Confused HF - thanks for the vote of confidence. LOL

Thank you for the help.

If it is going to an HD TV, you might want to get a signal power booster, to keep the picture clear, Radio Shack, Best Buy should have what you need.

If you get a booster be carful of the ends on the cables you use. The booster can cause signal leakage and the cable company will find out. They go around the neiborhoods with a DB meter to see if houses are leaking signals. If you are they will shut it off. The signals go staight up and can hurt air traffic signals to planes.
