aside from possibly upgrading my video card...what other things are wrong with this?

I wouldn't spend a penny on that current setup. It's just a generation or two behind. Wait and save for a brand new build. That rig should still last you another good year or so. If your rig is PCI-E, you could always carry over a videocard upgrade to a new machine. RAM most likely you cant.

I use a gig of RAM as well, and have no problems with it. Im running ut3, cod4, and crysis just fine with it.

What type of socket do you have on your motherboard. 939 or AM2, if its AM2 then you're not really to bad off. What type of ram is it? DDR or DDR2. And is your video card an AGP or PCI-E slot.
And I agree, if your going to upgrade anything, then RAM and the video card are the two things up front.
