But was it really the pot, or just them?

It's a question of self-accountability. It's a question of what kind of personality a person has. Someone who tries ANY drug, is going to try others that are harder than pot. Pot didn't guide them, they did themselves.

True, a young kid skipping school, and going to parties... who just happens to smoke pot as well... will become unmotivated, screw up in school, and become misguided in life. But was it the pot that dragged the kid by a leash? I don't think so.

I was never the party type. It wasn't a social thing for me. I liked to smoke it alone after work, or on the weekend when I worked on my car. I never hurt anybody doing it.. not even myself. The fact is... 90% of pot smokers have never harmed their own lives, or anyone else. There are NO studies that prove pot does anything... even kill brain cells. I'm sorry for those that may have jaded views of it because of bad experiences... the loss of a loved one.. etc. But don't blame something as harmless as pot. We live in a country where people love to blame everything, and everybody else for their own misfortunes.

I smoked pot daily for over 10 years... I would consider myself well off, intelligent, and happy.

A cop may have jaded views about people in general because they deal with the3 scum of the earth all day... huge credit for that. But just because .0005% of all the pot smokers are like that... gives no reason to generalize the rest of the pot smoking population with them. Its just not fair.

I am not using the .05%, I am telling you that every doper that I have arrested or just sat and talked to when I was learning my expertice in evalutaing people under the influence. Every single one of them said using heroin, coke, speed, pcp, started with using pot. Pot, nothing more. This is what they all told me. I have testified as an expert in two different counties here in Calif. on udner the influence and have contacted over 2000 dopers to earn my expertise. They are the ones telling me how f---ed their lives are because of pot.

The guys I used to smoke pot with in high school, 28 years ago. The ones who have stuck with it, are big time loosers now. They can not even hold part time jobs because, whether you want to believe it or not, pot kills brain cells. Someone mentioned alcohol too, how ever alcohol is socially acceptable and not illegal. I do agree it is a drug of sorts. I do know about alcoholics too, my brother in law is one. He had the world by the balls and now he is just a looser, because he cant stay out of the bottle.

I agree with you on accountability, but some people are just plain prone to being an addict of some kind, drugs or alcohol.

Look even after 24 years of being a cop, I dont judge people on who they are, it is what they do, their actions is what I judge them on. You say they are not studies that prove pot does anything bad to your body. I would disagree with you there. There are plenty of studies that show pot does destroy brain cells. The smoke as well is harsher on the lungs then cigarettes too. I trained not only with dopers and experience, but I was educated by doctors as well. It is agreed in the medical field that pot does cause damage to brain cells. Everyone knows smoke will cause you health problems as well. Not to mention it is against the law. period. If you break the law that makes a person guilty of a crime. I didnt make the laws, I only enforcement them. This is what society decided and people need to realize that the laws of the land need to be followed, until the nation changes them. I would not have a problem if alcohol, cigarettes, etc, were banned and made illegal. I like my beer, margaritas, etc., but I can live with out them.

Someone posted and asked if anyone was afraid of the guy smoking a joint, I am, especially if he gets behind the wheel of a car. My kids are out there on the roads. Pot will alter your senses and your reactions, thus making you DUI. DUI's kill people daily, we need both of them off the road.

Anyway I think this post has gone on long enough. You will never change my mind, and I know I will never change your's. So lets just leave it like that. Until you see what I have seen, you will never understand. I have seen what you have seen and done what you have done. We will just agree to disagree Exclamation Smile

I won't disagree with you on many points. I just know most pot heads never have been arrested... so you will never see them. Irresponsible dopers are another thing.

I yell at my girlfriends son for smoking the stuff because it sidetracks him. I can tell with ease when he has been doing it.

I think a well rounded, successful, and responsible adult should have the right to do it. Again its a choice thing. Hell, here alcohol can't be consumed by anyone under 21 legally. Doesn't mean there are a ton of irresponsible teens not consuming.

When I was one, I almost died about 4 times because of alcohol. Never once with pot. You would never know I was high either. Alcohol blows pot out of the water as far as affecting judgment, the ability to operate machinery etc.

There is one reported death from pot... a cow stumbled across 14 lbs. buried in the woods. It grazed there for a couple days, eating all of the stash. It tipped over and died.

i started this exact thread topic in another forum (however, I included legalizing prostitution), and the overwhelming response (this, on a forum for firearms owners with a LOT of L.E.O.'s, veterans, and government workers) was that the government has failed completely to accept the reality of pot in this country.

the reality is:
1. there are far more dangerous over-the-counter and prescription drugs that have been legalized due to the pharmaceuticals lobby

2.Prison, in the USA, is an INDUSTRY with a huge and powerful UNION. the USA has more people in prison per capita than almost any other country on the planet.

3. no matter how long it is fought, no matter how much money is spent, and no matter how many lives are ruined not by the pot itself but by the unreasonable destruction of one's future for simply having it, the war on drugs (pot, in this case) will NEVER, EVER BE WON

4. better to: have it made in the USA, stop financing the cartels, tax the hell out of it, sell it just like booze with the same applicable laws, and use a portion of the tax proceeds or manufacturer profits for treatment programs for those looking to go sober.

locking someone up for 2 years and preventing them from getting a decent job for a "felony drug conviction" because they had 3 joints on or near their person (Possession with intent to Distribute) is the real crime.

I've never done any "illegal" drugs, nor have I abused legal ones. I would not start it just because it was legalized. I'm a former L.E.O. and a Vet.
