well, hell in a bucket...

my samsung 50" plasma just bit the dust after just 2 months and about 150 hours total use... no console gaming, a few dvds only, and not left on for long periods of time. screen is solid green. sound works fine.

this after replacing my 1st plasma, an LG 50" that lasted 29 days and keeled over with the same problem. then I waited almost two weeks for the samsung replacement.

this sucks bollocks. wtf is with technology so craptastic it lasts less time than a decent drinking binge?

all I can say is, glad I bought the warranty.

I certainly won't buy another one of either.

going with the Pioneer "Kuro" 50". It's another few hundred pesos, but it's the highest rated "editors pick" on CNET, and no complaints of dead pictures. in fact, there's hardly any complaints at all about them.

let the waiting begin...

I bought an Olevia 32" LCD from black friday circuit city 1.5 years ago for $500. This tv has a great picture, maybe not exacty the samsung, but basically identical and I haven't got one problem from it and it's had TONS of use and some relocation abuse too. It just goes to show you that the rule of buy nice or buy twice is going to shit with all these imported crap, they are all made the same it seems now.

Sorry to hear that 10K - perhaps it's time to consider an LCD

I wouldn't mind a nice 1080p JVC myself.

I just got the 42" REGZA model and I love it. We've never had a Toshiba last less than seven years, and I'm hoping this model continues our luck.

Is there a reason you like plasma? I really prefer LCDs but I guess it is a matter of preference. LCDs don't get burn in and don't have to be recalibrated like plasmas.

My choice is Sony XBR's (got three of them) and I have never had a problem with them, ever. I did pay a premium for them though.

Just a thought.

For those that dont know.
The new Plasma TV's do not burn in anymore. They fixed that issue two generations ago. Plasmas have a higher refresh rate than LCD's do so for sports you will have a clearer image. Can you really tell the difference sitting 15 feet away? I doubt it.
Second thing. Panasonic and on other company are the only companies making the Plasma Screen. Sharp and one other company are the only companies making LCD screens. Sony, Pioneer and the rest buy Sharp screens and then add their guts. Same goes for all the Plasma tv's out there. If you want the best buy direct from the manufacturers of the screens.
Finally LCD's are getting there. They make better small screens IE 40" and below. The blacks are getting blacker which makes the colors stand out more ie better picture but still not as sharp as a Plasma. In the next couple of years this will not be the case.
Finally for all you Plasma screen owners. Fix your default settings. When you buy a plasma they max all the settings for best image quality on a show room floor. This will cause pre mature death of the screen. On average a 9th generation and above at max settings running will last 60,000 hrs of usage.

Right on the money. They basically say to use one or the other based on if you are putting it in a light room, or a darker room... just can't remember which. I'm still using a JVC 42' EDTV tv... its old, and still looks great for what it is!

LCD for light room and Plasma for Dark. At least thats the way it was. Again things have changed and the high gloss glass is gone on Plasma and it doesnt wash out the way it use to. What ever you choose just do some research and you will make the best decision for what you need.
