Thanks for posting that Eagle - I like the original Star Trek with James T. Kirk and the rest of the gang. I'm looking forward to seeing this one.

I must be the only one alive who thinks this movie looks like a B-rated flashback mixed with a little new age movies produced by hacks...
Just the hair alone makes me laugh so hard my eyes tear.
I just don't think star trek, and today's sex scene ridden movies mix too well.

You may be right. It will all come down to the acting. If they can "suspend disbelief" and make us forget Shatner and Nimoy and get to like the characters it could work really well (Christian Bale / Heath Ledger in Dark Knight) or it could be really stupid. (see ANY James Bond except Sean Connery)
It's always risky to mess with something that was really loved in its earlier incarnation especially where the actors who played the character really owned it. Star Trek was all about the interactions with Kirk and Spock and Bones - supported by Scotty and Zulu and Chekov and Uhrua. As cheesy as the show was, these characters just worked together. We will see if other actors can pull it off.
I don't mind the new effects and modernization. I suspect I will get used to that quickly. You couldn't even attempt to do something in the Star Trek "canon" today with the Styrofoam boulders effects of 1967. It would be laughed off the screen.
I think it is about 80% likely to be horrible, and 20% possible to be really good.

BUT doesn't JJ Abrams bring something different to a stale series??? Don't get me wrong I love the Star Treks, especially the Scott Bakula one!
Bond=Connery!
