During my lunchbreak I often go for a walk in the city center here in Middelburg.

Today I took some pics. It is a grey day, the sky is overcast and there was a drizzle.


Here is the City Hall on the Markt (market square):

Here is a detail:

Another view of the market square. There is a big open air market every Thursday. The church tower in the background is called Lange Jan (Tall John).

And here is the place where all this spam is sent from, my office building (built in 1674). It was the German Headquarters for this province in WWII. The surrender of the German Wehrmacht and therefore the end of WWII in this province was signed in here. A bronze plaque on the outside, just above the car on the left, reminds of that fact. My office is on the ground floor, on the right of the green door in the middle.

The bronze plaque:

"This is the place where the German occupiers surrendered to our Allied friends on November 6 1944".

So much history in this building... 8-) It does not take much to pretend to hear those big black German leather boots walking up and down the marble hallway in here...
