Well it looks like my camera ol'Betsy has decided to retire after the Ireland trip! I need some help/advice on deciding if I want to still go with the point&shoots or step up to the DSLRs. The DSLRs I'm looking at are the Canon EOS Rebel XS EF-S, Canon EOS Rebel XSi or the Pentax K-X and maybe the Nikons. Any point&shoot recommendations? Any opinions would be appreciated!

Settled on a Nikon D3000 from Best Buy, they had a good special going on here. The kit included a camera backpack, camera& lens and another lens- 55-200mm telephoto for one price.

Sorry I was going to respond. Nice camera. I know there are a couple of Nikon users here and I have seen their work, very nice.

I am a Nikon user myself and still very happy with it, Underdog! Good choice.

NP CG! The deal was too good to pass up! If I can get pics like yours from the Nikon I'll be happy big guy.

The 3000 is a great camera. I put it through some paces a year or so ago. You will find it a fun and flexible platform to expand your imagery. I tested its variable sensor positioning for resolution and a lot of macros stuff with it. Let me know if you have any problems or are just curious about it. The wife got the 3000 in the divorce and I am now using a D2x. (uZa) VS ( VirginSacrifice) up in Colorado shoots a lot of botanicals with his Nikon. Sorry it took me so long to catch your post. Fate

Thanks F8, good info... still letting the "auto" do the work..... It takes great pics with auto! I do wish it had "live view" but that's just my 2 cents, I guess I'm still use to my old "Point-and-Shoot" cameras.
