Thomas Jefferson was a very remarkable man who started learning very early in life, and never stopped . . .

Thomas Jefferson knew because he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, his laws and the nature of man. Great post, Rick. Jefferson was indeed a brilliant man, as were many of our Founding Fathers. As you noted, his brilliance did not come from a superior gene pool, but from his ability and willingness to study the history of governments and how they succeeded and failed. If one compares his quotes about the potential for the demise of our republic with what is happening today, one could be excused for coming away believing that Jefferson was able to predict the future.
