Sad thing is CoD over the past four years has been its own downfall, and yet still to this day game companies like DICE are trying to compete with it by basically making their own version of Modern Warfare. Trying to beat a franchise that's gone nowhere for a while now. And as a result, they end up flopping pretty good. BF3 is good, don't get me wrong, but there is definitely more CoD feel than that Battlefield feel I got when playing the older ones. The maps, even the supposed classic BF maps are still pretty small for Battlefield. Maps like Metro (Honestly, DICE, why?) Seine Crossing, and the map with those two structures and an alley way going down the middle are perfect examples of CoD influence. Screw CoD entirely. The franchise has been long washed up and people are looking for something better.

Well that's the thing. Nothing has. Because everyone's focusing on beating out CoD, when it's pretty much dead in the water in terms of progression. It's offered nothing revolutionary since Modern Warfare, and that isn't even really saying much.

I think they have run out of ideas for multi player gaming, most things have now been tried. It is going to be the same old stuff over and over again.

Indeed. FPS alone is not enough anymore. It's time to start mixing genres. Not that it hasn't been done before, but it needs to be done more often. Fallout 3 had awesome FPS and RPG elements. Right now, I think the best thing we got, at least for myself is Mass Effect 3.

I personally have been won over to BF3 form COD. I didnt buy the newest COD, but for me its just seems like its very limited on what you can do. BF may end up being the samething. I think if COD would be more interactive like BF they may do even better.

I wonder if someone could come up with a good FPS about the War for Southern Independence? Good graphics and game play, but with the weapons of the period. I'm not even sure how that would work, but is it worth exploring?

I wouldn't hold your breath, they didn't even have computers back then.

I think the American Revolution, a game focusing on historical accuracy as well as game-play mechanics would be fantastic! Be a great learning experience for everyone!

And I know the whole WWII era has been used up, but with the new engines coming out, like Frostbite 2, I'd love to see a new game based on WWII. From the London Bombings, to the Normandy Landings, both the beaches and airborne. The Battle of the Bulge, Patton's Offense, even in the French rebel forces, and that's just the western fronts!

Cynic, I think I have an up-coming game you might be interested in. You're probably not familiar with the Assassin's Creed series, but they just announced the next one, and it takes place during the American Revolution. It's a historically-based series with a hint of conspiracy, but it's definitely NOT a shooter. :)
